As seen from a magnet in the gift shop. It definitely made me want to hang around and read. It's so strange to visit a state where public spaces aren't trashed or falling to pieces. California is crumbling, bit by bit.
I'm in Seattle. It was raining when I boarded the plane in Oakland, and shockingly, Seattle is no different. I think the Gods of Rain know when I'm going on vacation.
The photo above is of a projection on the floor at the party for the opening of the Seattle International Film Festival. We saw Me, You, And Everyone We Know, which was great - one of the better films I've seen in some time.

Here's the view looking into Squaw Valley this weekend. Tahoe is utterly empty in mid-May, such a pleasure after the chaos of the winter.
Congrats to my friend Greggers, whose monthly dj spin just won a "Best of the Bay" award in the SF Weekly. Critics agree, Fallout rules.
This is Jen on finals. It's Monday at 2:30pm and I'm still in my pajamas, trying to find a magic solution to the peer-to-peer file sharing problem and study for a final exam in my distributed applications class. I'm also hopped up on iced tea and looking for any excuse I can not to work. In college, my friend Chelsea used to deal with the stress by creating art. I just create useless blog entries.
Boris was returned to us yesterday, looking to be completely intact from our brief inspection. Stereo still there (even though it was clear that they pried open the glove compartment and could have taken the stereo face - even they didn't want that crap-ass stereo!), not trashed, no wires hanging from the steering column (how in the hell did they start him, anyway?) - just a 1/4 tank lighter in fuel. Best we can tell the cops found him because the chicas who absconded with him dumped him about a mile away on Fair Oaks @ 25th, and he got a parking ticket. $35 to recover a stolen car is a decent fee, I suppose.
Anyway, that's me celebrating early this morning at 2am at a friend's party - do you like my party hat? Yes! Yes, I do like your party hat, Jen!
The New York Times interviewed the professor I'm working for this semester about the phenomenon she's researching - how to manage a plethora of digital photos. Ah data, how do we manage thee?
Here's more about the research project.
We have two cars - mine, Emily, which lives in the garage (because she's newer), and Boris, our beater car, which is a 1989 Honda Accord. Now, the point of having a beater is that because it's old and ugly, no one *should* want it. Well. Today, on Deneb's bike ride to work, he was only about 2 blocks away from our place when he realized he was pulling up besides Boris at a stoplight. Three young women had apparently just stolen Boris from around the corner from our house and were taking him for a ride. Words were exchanged, the women pulled away, and Deneb called the police. We're not sure what's become of Boris yet, but I'm still amazed that Deneb witnessed our car disappearing in mid-theft. City living! Such a joy!
